Giving Tuesday (also known as #GivingTuesday on social media) has become a well-known global day of giving that is celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Following the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is meant to inspire generosity during the holiday season. And, many nonprofits leverage the day to boost donations.

This year, South Dakota is launching the South Dakota Day of Giving (link to https://www.southdakotagives.org/), which is a state level version of Giving Tuesday. Held on November 27th, in conjunction with the international Giving Tuesday, the South Dakota Day of Giving is the first time nonprofits and communities from across the state are joining to celebrate South Dakota’s generosity.

Four Bands Community Fund is one of hundreds of nonprofits from 53 counties in South Dakota that is participating in the inaugural event. We have planned and have been implementing a social media campaign that highlights how our programs create economic opportunity for Native American entrepreneurs, families, and youth.

“This is a day for us to join efforts with other nonprofits to raise awareness of the good work we are all doing – and hopefully gain some additional donation support in the process,” says Lakota Vogel, Executive Director of Four Bands.

According to the South Dakota Gives website, long-term, loyal donors are more likely to give – and give more – on Giving Tuesday than any other time of the year. On Giving Tuesday in 2017, 2,400,000 gifts were made for a total of $274 million – up 63% from the previous year.
